Milagros Cakes is a small business dedicated to creating amazing custom cakes. The scope of this project included: designing and developing a website, designing a logo and business cards, and taking and editing pictures.

DISCOVERY

What is the goal?

The goal of the website was to increase the number of custom-cakes orders.

What are the main challenges/opportunities?

The main challenge was that there were no branding resources whatsoever, however, this also represented the perfect opportunity to create a new brand from scratch.

Who is the audience?

The main target audience was mothers of young children and brides-to-be around the Vancouver area.

USER PERSONAS

Carla

Background

Carla is a 35-year-old mother of two. Although she possesses a professional degree she has decided to prioritize raising her two children while her husband works.

Between her children’s school, household errands, social commitments, and raising her family, Carla has a very busy life. That said, there are a few things that Carla enjoys more than organizing birthday celebrations for her young ones.

She loves the creative thinking that goes behind the preparations and likes to go all-out for the party. For this reason, she is more than happy to pay the extra cash for a delicious, ethically-sourced, artisan custom cake for her children. What’s more, one of her kids has an intolerance to eggs, so it is a relief for Carla that she can get a delicious cake that her child can enjoy without having to worry about allergies.

Michaella

Background

Michaella is 28 and about to get married. She knows that her wedding will be one of the most important days of her life, and for this reason, everything has to be perfect — including the cake.

She is excited to get a beautiful and delicious cake that matches the theme of her wedding. Because this is such an important day in Michaella’s life, her mother and friends (and possibly a wedding planner) will be helping her to make all the right choices.

CONCEPT DESIGN

The concept for the Milagros Cake was to be “Cozy Elegance”. The idea was for the brand to feel warm and embracing, while at the same time giving an air of sophistication.

LAUNCH AND LESSONS

I developed the website using WordPress and gave the client an in-depth tutorial on how to keep it updated with new pictures.

Really knowing who the target audience was, helped me to create a brand, message, and user experience that truly spoke to the customers’ needs.

The launch was a success! After redirecting traffic to the website using Google Ads, the client received a multitude of orders and referrals.
